Mihalek’s Amended Bill to Reopen Car Sales, Hair Salons and More Will Head to Governor’s Desk

HARRISBURG – Today, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives returned to session and passed Rep. Natalie Mihalek’s (R-Allegheny/Washington) amended legislation which would allow several industries in Pennsylvania to reopen and continue operations during the governor’s business closure order.

The House previously passed Mihalek’s bill which would have reopened car sales in Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, the Senate amended the legislation to require the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to issue waivers to several other industries, including lawn and garden centers, cosmetology salons, barber shops, messenger and agent services, animal grooming services and manufacturing operations.

“I want to thank my colleagues for coming together today and sending this bill to the governor’s desk. As elected officials, we want to keep our residents safe and we want our communities to prosper,” said Mihalek. “As amended, House Bill 2388 allows a lot of dreams to survive. It allows car dealers, salons, pet groomers, manufacturers, lawn and garden centers, and messenger services a chance to serve their clients safely. It allows them a chance to adapt to a new way of doing business.

“This bill will bring work back to thousands and thousands of Pennsylvanians. It will allow thousands to have access to the services they have not been able to access for so many weeks,” continued Mihalek. “This bill will restore hope to so many hard-working Pennsylvanians and I hope our governor recognizes that.”
