HARRISBURG – Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) announced a $568,000 grant was awarded to a recreation trail project in Bethel Park.

“Organizers and community leaders have been advocating for this project and it is great to see it move forward,” said Mihalek. “Certainly, Bethel Park is an active community, and I know that residents and visitors make great use of these kinds of amenities.”

The project includes the installation of a walking and biking trail throughout the Bethel Park Industrial Park that will include small parklets and bioswale gardens to be used by visitors for passive recreation. Work will include grading and construction of concrete pavement, pedestrian and bike safety marking, and the creation and installation of historic information markers.

The grants are provided through Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), which is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act.

“Our local governments work hard to prioritize these kinds of projects while still budgeting responsibly,” said Mihalek. “Grants like these make these projects possible, and in a cost-effective manner.”
