HARRISBURG – Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) issued the below statement following the passage of legislation to finalize the 2023-24 budget:
“The budget passed tonight is not what I would consider the best-case scenario, and so I voted against it. But I don’t think it’s anyone’s best-case scenario. However, it does make adequate investments in the services that people expect from their state government.
“When one side is yelling that it spends too much and another is screaming that it doesn’t spend nearly enough, no one can be surprised that a final product lands somewhere in the middle. Certainly, there are things that I would like to see done differently. For instance, I would like to see more safeguards on the programs that are funded, so we can be certain those dollars are being used as intended.
“As the saying goes, everyone likes hot dogs but not after they see how they’re made. But when this is over, we can clean up the kitchen and get back to work on the policies that people care about most: strengthening education, improving economic conditions and making our communities safer.”
