Mihalek Announces CFA Grant for Allegheny County
April 21, 2021
ALLEGHENY – Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) announced that Allegheny County was awarded a Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) grant in the amount of $150,000. The Miracle League of the South Hills Inc. requested a Greenways, Trails and Recreation fund grant to improve an existing baseball field in Upper St. Clair Township. The grant will be used for concession stand construction.
The Miracle League of South Hills Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for children with disabilities to play baseball regardless of their abilities.
Mihalek issued the following statement:
“This grant means so much to the Miracle League Community. And it goes far beyond a concession stand. I’ve spent many mornings on that field or the adjacent playground with my kids. Watching the Miracle League players is an absolute pleasure. Many of them lead very difficult lives due to physical and mental disabilities, but when they are on that field they get to experience childhood and camaraderie in a way that everyone should, and for those brief moments on those summer Saturdays, they have no limitations.
“The Miracle League field is a beautiful treasure and a testament of the generosity of Sean Casey. Without his leadership and kind heart, it would not be there. I am so happy to have been able to advocate for these funds to assist with improving this fantastic facility, and if you have never caught a Miracle League game, please come for a visit.”
