Mihalek Secures $750,000 in Grants for 40th Legislative District
HARRISBURG – Rep. Natalie Mihalek (R-Allegheny/Washington) announced three improvement projects in the 40th Legislative District will benefit from an additional $750,000 in state funding approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) in Harrisburg.
The projects that are receiving funding through the CFA that Mihalek advocated for include:
• Bethel Park Borough: Awarded a $100,000 grant for the Bethel Green Project, a project to acquire and permanently preserve 40.4 acres of green space near the intersections of Route 88 and Connor Road and Valley Drive. The green space is within walking distance of several thousand neighbors, and features an informal, well-kept network of crisscrossed hiking and biking trails.
• Upper St. Clair Township: Awarded a $150,000 grant for the Morton Complex and Community Garden Trail, phase IIB of the Boy May View Park perimeter trail, a 10-foot-wide multi-use asphalt trail with a cantilevered bridge and boardwalk. Once completed, this link will provide just over five miles of an off-street asphalt trail and connect to various points of interest in the park.
• Peters Township: Awarded a $500,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund grant to construct an intersection at East McMurray Road and Rolling Hills Drive in Peters Township. The scope of this grant will be to complete phase II of the construction of Peters Township High School and park on 190 acres of land of the former Rolling Hills County Club. Phase II consists of the construction of a new off-alignment intersection with East McMurray Road and the remaining 0.4 miles of roadway of Rolling Hills Drive and the installation of an adaptive signal system.
“I was happy to advocate for these projects on behalf of the 40th district,” said Mihalek. “The Morton Trail project has been in the works for years and I’m glad to have helped secure funding to get that project finished. It was a pleasure working with Bethel Park as well as the Allegheny Land Trust to help make the Bethel Green project a reality. It’s something that is overwhelmingly favored by the community and I can’t wait to see it complete. Our community is excited about the new high school and park in Peters Township and the grant they received will allow for safe and efficient enter and exit points from the high school during peak morning and evening commutes.”
The 40th Legislative District includes Bethel Park Borough and Upper St. Clair Township in Allegheny County and Peters Township in Washington County.
The CFA was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth and holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
